Once a gift is accepted by the library, it cannot be returned. Gifts of miscellaneous books or other materials will be accepted with the understanding that any items not added to the collections may be disposed of at the discretion of the library.
More specific gifts, such as works of art, furniture, portraits, antiques, equipment, special collections, stocks, and real property, will be referred to the Director for acceptance in consultation with the Board of Trustees. When funds are donated for specific purposes, the amount and nature of the expenditure must receive prior approval.
Substantial cash offerings, securities, and bequests will be managed by the Director, who will work with the Board of Trustees to establish terms of acceptance that align with Library policies, the donor’s intent, and applicable laws.
The library welcomes cash gifts for the purchase of library materials in honor of individuals or organizations. We will make every effort to accommodate the subject or title preferences of the donor. If desired, the names of the donor(s) and the individuals or organizations being recognized will be included on a bookplate attached to the materials.
Upon request, the library will provide written acknowledgment of the receipt of gifts. However, in accordance with income tax regulations, the determination of the donation's value will be left to the donor.
